The "Students-on-the-Land" forest stewardship educational trunk offers forestry tools and a curriculum to help students and teachers in the Northern Rockies learn through hands-on and classroom applications. Youth learn about forest ecosystems, plant and tree identification, compass navigation and other skills. They use forestry tools to survey forest conditions and stereoscopes to view aerial photographs and to map forest types.
Two trunk sets are available. One is at Swan Ecosystem Center; the other is at the Natural History Center in Missoula (406) 327-0405. SEC's Education Coordinator is available to assist teachers in the field and the classroom with the implementation of trunk activities.
