Local foresters and fire management specialists will conduct a tour of local homeowners' properties that have had various types of fuels reduction and forest restoration work completed on their land. Sign up deadline July 30. Donations appreciated. Learn more.

Information, demonstrations, great food and activities for the whole family, at the Hungry Bear Steak House in the backyard.
August 12-13—Fish Camp

Two days of fishing techniques, fishing ethics, fishing and camping for kids ages 10-13. Younger students accompanied by parents are welcome. Suggested fee is $10/person and $20/family.
August 14—Water Quality Event

Attend Swan Lake's Huckleberry Festival. While visiting booths and exhibits, stop by the Swan River watershed display and learn more regarding the management of this great fishery. Information and activities for adults/kids.
September 25—Geology Tour
9:30 am-3:00 pm
Lex Blood, mining engineer and geology professor—retired, will lead a fascinating tour of sites in the Mission Valley formed by Glacial Lake Missoula. Sign up deadline September 20. Participants limited to 30. Suggested donation $25/person and $40/couple.
June 26—Celebrate The Swan Race
The 8th annual Celebrate the Swan Race included a half marathon, 10K, 5K, 5K walk and one mile fun run with door prizes, raffle, kids games and homemade baked goods for participants.
July 3—Bears
U.S. Forest Service bear ranger, Mark Ruby, presented current information on bear management and strategies for living with bears in the Swan Valley.
July 5-9—Youth Camp
Participants ages 9-13 were in the woods and on Swan Valley trails everyday. Field trips and hikes offered youth the opportunity to learn more about Swan Valley plants, animals and landscape.
July 8—Aquatic Invaders
Kristen Dolence, Fish, Wildlife & Parks, presented information vital to the preservation of water quality, aquatic habitat and water recreation equipment. Learn more.
July 13—Fly-Fishing
Les Rutledge conducted fly fishing instruction at the U.S. Forest Service Condon Work Center and on the Swan River. Learn more.
July 29—Local History Night
Local historians, early residents and forest ecologists discussed the history of the valley from the perspective of forest history, how the forests have changed over the last couple of centuries, and projections of future forests. |
