And the winner was...the weatherman! Again this year we were blessed with sunny skies and moderate temperatures, a racer's delight. Following a soggy spring, race officials expressed their relief at the benevolent conditions much as a half marathon runner expresses joy upon crossing the finish line!
Speaking of the half marathon, we had a record 21 participants. The winners, John DiBari of Missoula (1:36:45) and Vadine Rispens of Helena (1:42:44) appeared ready to take the Missoula Marathon by storm. Whether they do or not is up to them, but many of the 5K and 10K runners said our challenging course was a "tune up" for next month's big marathon.
Even with a near record 95 participants, the Celebrate the Swan Race is still small by most standards and the racers Saturday seemed to like it that way. They loved the camaraderie, Bob Eagen's race mugs, the gift certificates from the Hungry Bear Steak House and the Mission Mountain Mercantile here in Condon, and the fabulous cookies donated by Valley residents!
A special thanks goes out to our sponsors and donors, dozens of race volunteers, and of course the runners—all of whom make this race so great. See you at next year's race which will be Saturday, June 25, 2011!
