Attention Water Recreationists!
Learn All You Can About Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS)

On July 8th Kristin Dolence of the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks will present an evening program at Holland Lake Beach on the topic of aquatic invasive species. AIS are plants, animals and microscopic organisms that are not native to an aquatic ecosystem. The introduction of such organisms does or is likely to cause environmental or economic harm. Since invasive species do not have any natural controls, they will reproduce rapidly and aggressively compete with native species. Eradication of any non-native species is nearly impossible so the best approach is to be proactive through education, early detection and prevention.

Everyone who values their fishing and water activities will want to be more informed and share this information about AIS whenever possible. The evening program with Kristin will explain the details of this most recent threat to our water recreation activities. Here are the names of a few of the organisms of concern:  Zebra Mussels, Eurasian Watermilfoil, Salvinia, New Zealand Mud Snails, Hydrilla, Round Goby, Whirling Disease, Spiny Water Flies, Guagga
Mussels
, Asian Carp, and Rusty Cray Fish.

See you at Holland Lake Beach at 7:00 p.m. You might want to bring a chair and insect repellent. For more information call Swan Ecosystem Center at
