On May 23, students readied the native plant pollinator gardens for summer visitors and local residents to view and enjoy. This was the last day of the eighth season of After School Club (ASC). After school gatherings will begin again in the middle of the September. The day of the week has not yet been chosen.
Most meetings are held at the U.S. Forest Service Condon Work Center. Home school students as well as students from the three k-8 schools in the area between the ages of 9 through 13 are welcome. Younger students are invited if parents can be present.
In addition to local volunteers, recreation specialists and naturalists will make special visits at many of the weekly meetings.
Projects for the 2011-2012 school year will include camp cooking, compass use and identification of over-wintering birds of the Swan Valley. Rarely does an afternoon at ASC pass that we are not outdoors most of the meeting. Winter meetings are largely snowshoeing and cross country skiing events. ASC also helps with regular maintenance of conifer seedlings, blue bird houses and the native plant pollinator garden. Our motto is Service, Education and Recreation. Come join us after Labor Day, 2011.
